What inspired you to start riding?
“This is a pretty funny question because usually people have someone close who inspires them to ride, like their dad, mom, or a sibling...
In my case, there wasn't anyone close with a motorcycle, my favourite music style is rock, and I think the world of motorcycles has always been closely tied to the spirit of rock, so after seeing so many cool people having a blast on bikes, I decided to give it a try.
What I'm sure of is that the feeling of freedom I had the first time I rode my 125cc made it clear that I was going to keep riding for the rest of my life.”
What Triumph models have you ridden, which is your favourite and why?
“Luckily, I can say I've tried all Triumph models from the past 4 years!
Picking just one is tough as I love them all. My favourite style of bike is the Modern Classics; I have a Scrambler 900 that I'm in love with. However, if I had to choose a companion for it in the garage, I think I would go with the Speed Triple 1200 RR... it's so beautiful! It has it all—power, speed, and style!”
What advice or tips you would you give to other riders (both new and experienced)?
Choose a bike you like and that represents you, a bike you look at and think: “My bike is so cool!"
If you're just starting out, do not push your limits. Riding should be enjoyable, and often when we're starting out, we ride with people more experienced than us and we want to match their level, which means we end up uncomfortable and unsafe. If you're riding with more experienced folks, just tell them you're learning and ask for a bit of patience. It's better for them to wait than for you to feel uncomfortable trying to keep up.
Always ride with protective gear. Whether it's hot or not, riding well protected should always be a priority. There's some good-looking gear available at Triumph for all seasons!”
Favourite riding routes in Spain?
“Living in Spain is a blessing if you're a rider because we have so many beautiful routes with all kinds of landscapes, so it's easy to improvise a route from anywhere in the country and end up with an unforgettable ride.
Even though I'm from Madrid and I love our mountain routes, my heart belongs to the Basque Country. My favourite route there is from Hondarribia to Lekeitio (Hondarribia - Pasaia - Donosti - Zarautz - Getaria - Zumaia - Mutriku - Lekeitio).
It's an easy route, about 3 hours long, perfect for disconnecting and enjoying.”
Do you have any dream destinations and if so, which Triumph are you taking?
“My dream is to ride around the world with my Scrambler!
Besides Scrambler being the motorcycle I identify with the most, I think it's the perfect bike for the job. It's reliable, I can carry luggage in the saddlebags, it's super comfortable, it's amazing on the road, but I know if I need to hit the track, it'll be up to the challenge.”
Can you share any memorable experiences from your time on the road?
“One of the most special moments for me was riding at sunrise in the Dubai desert. I love the 'magic' of the desert.
I can't describe what it is, but I love it, and being able to ride through the dunes was incredible. I was there with friends, and they said, 'Sonia, tomorrow we're going to ride through the desert, we can lend you a Bonneville T120 with road tires, do you think you can handle it?' And the next day, there I was at 4:00 am in the morning with a Triumph Bonneville T120 heading to the Rub al-Jali desert to 'surf' the dunes for the first time.”
What’s your favourite thing about the Triumph Motorcycle community?
“It's an awesome community! I've made some good friends in the "Triumph Universe," and I love the authenticity and the amazing energy that surround it. I think the key is that its more than just a brand, it's a lifestyle that brings us together, and that's awesome.”
