Speed Twin 900: Your Questions, Our Answers

Discover the standout features of the new Speed Twin 900. The global motorcycle media gathered to experience the updated Speed Twin 900 during our international press ride. We gave our fans and followers the chance to ask us their questions about this exciting new model. Here’s everything you wanted to know, answered by the Triumph team.
Q) Why not a 17-inch front wheel?
A) The classic 18-inch front wheel has the same diameter as those fitted to our Bonneville models. This contributes to the Speed Twin 900’s authentic style while also enhancing its fun and engaging handling.
Q) What is the seat height?
A) The seat has been redesigned with extra padding for greater comfort, and the new height of 30.7 inches (780mm) provides more legroom. A low seat is also available as an accessory, reducing the seat height to 29.9 inches (760mm). Combined with the narrow profile, this makes it easier to reach the ground.
Q) How much horsepower and torque does it have?
A) The 900cc Bonneville Twin engine is all about torque. It’s responsive and effortless, delivering 59 lb-ft (80Nm) at under 4,000 rpm. Peak power is 64 hp (65PS) at 7,500 rpm.
Q) Are Speed Twin 1200 accessories compatible?
A) Every Triumph accessory is designed alongside the bike, with more than 75 dedicated parts available for the Speed Twin 900. With so many personalization options, it’s easy to create your own custom take on this timeless design.
Q) What colors are available?
A) There are three design options to choose from:
- Sporty: Pure White, with bright blue and orange stripes on the tank
- Bold & Dark: Phantom Black, with dark gray stripes and gold accents
- Classic & Refined: Aluminum Silver
Q) Did it come from heaven?
A) What do you think?
Q) Why isn’t TSA (Triumph Shift Assist) an option on the standard 900 or 1200?
A) Triumph Shift Assist (TSA) isn’t available on the Speed Twin 900. The more aggressive rear-set footpegs on the new Speed Twin 1200 RS allowed room to fit the TSA unit, and it complements that model’s sharper, more dynamic ride.
Q) What are the key differences from the previous model?
A) The new Speed Twin 900 is a cleaner, more contemporary evolution of our iconic Speed design DNA. Major upgrades include improved suspension, a new swingarm, and enhanced brakes, plus new technology such as Optimized Cornering ABS and Traction Control, along with a new multifunction instrument panel. Want to see the details up close? Visit your local Triumph dealer!
Q) Why is the swingarm different from the T100?
A) The upgraded rear suspension is mounted to a lightweight and stiffer aluminum swingarm, providing precise handling and a ride that’s as relaxed or dynamic as you want it to be. The Bonneville T100 uses a more traditional steel swingarm to maintain its authentic heritage styling.
Q) What is the average fuel consumption?
A) The new Speed Twin 900 has a 3.2-gallon (12-liter) fuel tank and an official fuel consumption of just 59 mpg (4.0 liters/100 km).
(CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption figures are measured according to regulation 168/2013/EC. Fuel consumption values are derived from specific test conditions and are for comparison purposes only. They may not reflect real-world riding results.)
Q) Can the seat height be lowered to 29.9 inches (760mm)?
A) Yes – a low seat is available as an accessory, reducing the seat height to just 29.9 inches (760mm). Combined with the narrow profile, this makes it easier to put your feet down.
Q) If I wake up tomorrow, will it be in my garage?
A) Sadly, no… but you can head to your local Triumph dealer for a test ride!
Q) When will it get six gears and a small power bump?
A) The 900cc Bonneville Twin engine is all about torque – 59 lb-ft (80Nm) at just 3,800 rpm – with gear ratios designed for great throttle response, effortless acceleration, and comfortable cruising. If you’re looking for even more performance and a sharper ride, the Speed Twin 1200 might be the bike for you!
